License Activation

Paste your license key to unlock premium features. Covers activation, deactivation, moving to a new site, and retrieving a lost key.

Where to paste the key

Open SheetLink -> License in your WordPress admin. Paste the key you received in your post-purchase email (format: slkey_ followed by 32 hex characters) and click Activate this site. The plugin exchanges the key for a site-bound activation token with the SheetLink server, caches your entitlements for 12 hours, and unlocks every premium feature your tier includes.

Email-based fallback

If you lost the license key, the License page accepts the email address you used at checkout as a fallback. The backend looks up every active license under that email and picks the one with available site slots.

The fastest way to recover a lost key is the customer portal at sheetlinkwp.com/account/. Enter your email, click the magic-link we send, and every active license and its current key is visible on the Licenses tab. No WordPress admin needed - handy when you've just stood up a new site and haven't installed the plugin yet.

Secure by default

The portal uses magic-link sign-in plus optional TOTP two-factor authentication for Agency and Enterprise tiers. See Portal Security for the full auth model.

What happens during activation

Activation is the only time the free core plugin contacts an external server. The plugin POSTs your license key plus this site's domain to siteanswerai.com/api/sheetlinkwp/verify over HTTPS. No form submissions, user accounts, or site content are ever transmitted. Every 12 hours the plugin re-checks your entitlements (cached locally in between) so feature access stays current if you upgrade or cancel an add-on.

Moving to a new site or deactivating

Each license tier has a maximum site count (Freelancer 5, Agency 25, Enterprise 100). When you hit the cap, activation fails with "Site limit reached". Three ways to free a slot:

  1. From the old site's WordPress admin - click Deactivate this site on the License page. The slot becomes available immediately.
  2. From the customer portal (no WP login needed) - sign in at sheetlinkwp.com/account/, open the Agency tab (Agency/Enterprise only), and click Deactivate on the site row. Requires a 6-digit email re-auth code. This is the one to use when you've lost access to the old WordPress site entirely.
  3. Reactivate a previously deactivated site - if a site was deactivated and you want it back, Reactivate from the Agency tab restores it without consuming an extra slot.

Error messages and what they mean

  • License key not recognised - The key was mistyped or the license was refunded / revoked. Paste again carefully, or fall back to email.
  • Couldn't reach the SheetLink activation server - Your WordPress host is blocking outbound HTTPS to siteanswerai.com. Whitelist that domain in any security plugin (Wordfence, Sucuri, iThemes) and on the firewall.
  • Site limit reached - Deactivate an unused site first, then retry.
  • Server error, try again - Transient 5xx from our side. Wait a minute and retry; report it if it persists.
